Kimberly
Advocacy
Kimberly spent a year training and working as a parent advocate for Pacer Center, Minnesota’s advocacy organization for families of kids with disabilities. She learned laws and rights for kids to assist families in negotiating for IEP’s, 504 plans, and other rights.
Family
Kimberly has four kids. Three are young adults that have attended and graduated from Bloomington schools. Her fourth is a first grader in the Strive program (special education) at Poplar Bridge Elementary.
Special Needs
Kimberly started her special needs journey as a foster parent. She adopted a special needs child and has learned not only how to care for his diverse needs (developmental delays due to brain damage, cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, a feeding tube and more), but also how to navigate special education in school as a parent.
